short novel difficulty

i know, i know... i haven't posted anything for ages! I have just been so busy at school, with homework and all.
today we got told we had to write a story in two days! the stress is agonizing. just so you know, i really don't cope that well with stress. so i was writing this story which really didn't make any sense at all. anyway here is what i have written so far.
its supposed to be a murder/ crime & detective kind of a thing.

Then there was silence, for what seemed like an eternity. When I realized that there was darkness, it happened. It happened so quickly, almost like a dream, like a flash.
It was a cold and dreary day, so cold that the weather almost felt warm. I glanced at the clock. The hour 11 came about so slowly. It seemed like time was extending on as long as it possibly could. Clancy stared at me as if I was an alien. She was probably wondering why I hadn't been out of bed for over seventeen hours. I stared back until she curled back into a ball of fur. She is the most wonderful pet, I thought to myself. She never complains, she understands me and I understand her. The wind squeezed itself through the crack under the front door and made its way into my bedroom, turning the pages on my calendar until they reached the correct date.
I dragged myself out of bed, wondering why I hadn't done so before. It’s really not that cold, I sighed as I realized my window was filled with frost and ice. I peered around my door frame. No ones home, tiptoeing along the floor I passed my brothers room. As I did, a strange scent came by my nose. It didn’t come across as anything unusual; he was always burning strange incenses. But this scent wasn’t sweet. The floorboards creaked slightly as I walked. The kitchen was dark, like usual. My mother died when I was 15, from unknown causes.
My Father found her dead in her car. I remember his scream so clearly, although it was more of a yelp than a scream. They weren’t married though. Her death didn’t affect him as much as it affected me. I was torn apart for 3 years. There was a police case, and an article in the news paper. But it was never a big issue to anyone except me. It was much unexpected you see. My brother, Martin, wasn’t at all stressed. It passed him by like a moth crossing a busy road. Martin was different to me. For as long as I could remember he wouldn’t speak to me, or anyone else for that matter. He has black hair, and skin as white as clouds. Not like anyone in our family. I have light brown hair and green eyes. I am tidy, and he is messy. We are the complete opposite. Everything he does I don’t agree with, and the same goes with I to him.

i don't even know where this is heading! Im really awful when it comes to story writing. but i do try my best!
